Butterfly & Basket
Some sculptures are conversations. This one began in Thailand, where Kevin and Jennifer Box discovered the artistry of traditional woven baskets, and ends in the hands of Michael G. LaFosse, a celebrated origami artist, whose folded butterfly now seems to have landed for just a moment on the basket's open weave.
The result is a meeting of two traditions and two artists' visions, captured forever in cast metal. The butterfly is rendered in painted stainless steel; the basket, in patinated, painted bronze that holds the warmth of its hand-woven inspiration.
